Noon Mardi Gras parade to run shortened route in downtown Mobile (updated with map)

Mobile, Alabama -- The Mobile Police Department has announced that Monday's 12 p.m. King Felix II and Floral parade will travel an abbreviated version of Route A in downtown Mobile.

The change was made at the request of the Mobile Carnival Association, according to MPD spokesman Cpl. Christopher Levy.

The noon Mardi Gras parades will process as normal along the first portion of Route A -- which begins at the Civic Center and winds its way through Claiborne, Church, Royal, St. Francis, Conception and Government streets. But, instead of continuing west on Government to hit Canal and Broad streets, as well as Springhill Avenue, the parades will turn south on Claiborne from Government Street and back toward the Civic Center.

Levy said concerns about the weather prompted the change, however there have been no alterations to the day's parade schedule to be run by the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association. Their parades begin at 3 p.m., with the MLK Business and Civic Organization and the Krewe of the Avenue along Route D.
