Global news media execs are?gathering in London?to discuss the continuing emergence of digital media at WAN-IFRA?s Digital Media Europe 2013 (#DME13) and we?d like to invite you to influence the agenda with a hack day on Saturday 13th April.
WAN-IFRA covered the first Knight-Ridder tablet back in 1994. 20 years later, publishers are finally breaking with the past?moving from daily print editions to 24-hour digital-first operations with tech savvy journalists able to broadcast direct from mobile devices. As once traditional organisations learn to embrace digital media and become digitally native, they?re becoming more and more data driven. And they?re looking to developers for inspiration.
We?ll have an open agenda, and plan to look at three key themes:
- UK and the EU: In or Out?
- How do we tell stories without sticking to print-first assumptions?
- Can we make advertising less annoying ?
We?ll start at 9 at a location to be confirmed in Central London, hack all day, and finish code by 5 for prizes, beer and pizza from 6 on.
To fully explore these stories in one day, we will need a mixture of developers, information architects and journalists (feel free to share this post!)
ScraperWiki will be looking into related datasets to have scraped, cleaned and shiny in advance (if you have any ideas for useful ?sets, drop us a line), so there will be plenty of info available if you need raw data (and an API).
